WHAT’S ON: AIDS candlelight memorials

Melbourne: International AIDS Candlelight Vigil

This annual event will take place at Melbourne City Square to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS-related issues and will hosted by Richard Taki, the 2014 Auckland Pride Parade Director in conjunction with the Victorian AIDS Council, Living Positive Victoria and City of Melbourne.

Sydney: Sydney Candlelight Memorial

Now in its 17th year, Sydney’s annual remembrance event for people lost to AIDS-related illnesses will be hosted by acclaimed playwright and Tommy Murphy, the associate producer of upcoming Australian film Holding the Man. The event is co-produced by ACON and Positive Life NSW.

As in previous candlelight memorials, the names of lost loved ones will be read out during the ceremony and everyone is invited to come along and celebrate their lives with some drinks, snacks and music.

  1. So many of us owe our lives to to all those men that died to the high doses of AZT. And other medications that lead to combination therapy. So light a candle and have a think guys. Is prep for the rich westerners the way to go or is put a rubber on it worth it?
