Club Chrome is Australia’s first pole dance collective that showcases Queer, BIPOC (black, indigenous, and people of colour), and sex worker artists.
In December 2020, Club Chrome was founded by Linhqu, a queer Vietnamese-Australian former stripper, during Melbourne’s Covid-19 lockdowns.
They have since performed across Australia, showcasing Queer excellence for Soft Centre, Vivid Sydney, Dark Mofo, Art Gallery of New South Wales’s Queer Art After Hours, House of Mince, Heaps Gay, Sydney Solstice, DEiFY, and Shandy Party.
According to organisers, Linhqu started to notice that sex workers were “either unable to work or risking their health to make money, but non-sex workers were continuing to pay to attend inner-city pole dance fitness classes.”
Club Chrome was also established because historically pole has been very white cis women-centric pole dance scene.
‘Prioritising safety for folks with differing access and cultural needs are virtually non-existent. Whorephobia is still prevalent in pole-fit studios. Club Chrome wants to establish relationships and create opportunities that didn’t previously exist for folks that live at intersections of these marginalised groups.”
Regularly Runs Workshops
In 2022, they made their international debut with performances in Singapore and UK.
Club Chrome regularly run workshops so that members can collaborate with other movement artists, musicians, designers, photographers, and videographers.
