Something to remember
Back as far as I remember,
There was a time I’d lay a gentle kiss
On my sleeping baby’s forehead and past my wife, a fond farewell -” wedded bliss.
Into a day, an extraordinary day
A coffee, a walk, to confide and seek
He held my hand, then watched me leave so soon after that gentle meet.
Words of love and flights between two cities, wasn’t our life berserk?
Where a child slept at a door wondering if his dad would ever come home from work.
Together again, a journey new
Moving in, us guys hoped made a happy two
No syncopated rhythms, but tango heat
A misguided kiss -” finally I was beat.
Three years turned to four
Alone again, to make some space
Two little boys gently demanding more
Now this time, a different point of view
I had all my bets laid out on you
Set your stakes too high,
You’re bound to lose.
In the game of love, you pay your dues.
Say that happiness cannot be measured, and a little pain can bring you all life’s little pleasures.
What a joke.
Guess I’m waiting for my place in your sun.
Wish I had the chance to know you when it wasn’t stormy weather.
What a shame, who’s to blame?
We weren’t meant to be,
At least not in this lifetime,
But you gave me something to remember.
It may not be news but Jon Meyer’s column lets us know what it is like as a gay father. It’s nice to have bit of variety in a gay publication. Or would people like even more photos of wasted barflies in overpriced Oxford St dives?
No, Fred, it’s not news. It’s not filed under ‘ճԹ’ either. I thought it showed us some of the pain behind John’s usual “everything in the garden is rosy” attitude. As someone who is interested in individuals and their stories, I found it revealing.
And this is news, How??
