‘Hey guys… I have a new job’ I handed the mini men a raspberry fizzer. Six hands plucked paper off each sticky lolly rapidly layering the ground with white curled feathers of paper.
‘That might mean some things change, you know, like me picking you up from school every week.’
Beau looked at me over his little freckly nose, nodding. Chick was still busy flicking off pieces of paper unfurling his fizzer.
‘But I’ll do my best to keep picking you up from school once on the Monday’ Both nodding and chewing.
I wanted to talk to them and invite them into the conversation of change, not just let it happen to them. They were owed that much.
‘There are some upsides you know, like standing up in a meeting and telling everyone to do the CHICKEN DANCE!’ Immediately the gents danced around and clucked their little arms laughing.
‘Or Dad, you could make them do a fart dance,’ Chick protruded his bottom and leapfrogged around.
‘Dad, no, wait – you could make all the girls get naked and the boys can have sex with them,’ to more laughing…
‘Oh of course, I forgot all about that one Beau, thank you. Gosh you can tell you’re starting to sprout hormones can’t you? I think we’ll stick with the chicken dance hey Chick?’
Later that night the boys waved me off and one final wish from Chicky to tell everyone to dance at my first meeting, was hilarious. The boys were clucking on the driveway.
My first meeting of the week, I could hear the strains of the song for the chicken dance – I would be rude not to fulfil the boys dreams wouldn’t it?
