Calling for volunteers
The NSW Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby (GLRL) has started planning for what should be another fun-filled Mardi Gras season. The Mardi Gras season is a very busy time for the GLRL, so we are calling out for members of the community to assist us with the many events we participate in during the season.
The GLRL will hold a number of fundraising events during the season, including our annual donation drive on Oxford St, running the cloakroom at ToyBox, and providing front of house services and running the cloakroom at Harbour Party. Volunteers at the party events should receive a free ticket and are able to enjoy the party once they have completed their shift.
The GLRL will also require the assistance of volunteers to help run our stall at Fair Day, and help coordinate our annual Sea of Hearts. We will also need volunteers to assist us with some new and exciting events for the GLRL, which are soon to be announced!
The GLRL has decided that the theme for this year’s parade float will be ‘Campaigning for Happier Days’, which will draw creative inspiration from the TV classic Happy Days. We are calling out for volunteers to help create this year’s float entry, and to participate. The GLRL will take this opportunity to highlight some of our campaign and research areas for 2010 including, marriage equality, federal anti-discrimination provisions, and NSW reforms to adoption and surrogacy law. We plan to have a contingent of choreographed marches, a walking group, as well as a very hot pink Cadillac!
All these events go a long way to helping the GLRL spread our message, and ensuring we have the funding to continue campaigning for legislative equality and social justice. If you are able and willing, we welcome you to roll up your sleeves and help the GLRL this Mardi Gras season.
The GLRL will host a Mardi Gras season volunteer information night on Monday, February 1 at our office in Glebe. To register interest in volunteering please email [email protected] or just attend on the night. We hope to see you there!
