World AIDS Day is upon us again and this year there are several new things happening in the Illawarra to help raise visibility during World AIDS Day Awareness Week.
On Monday, November 29 ACON Illawarra will be having a pancake breakfast fundraiser at the Community Space from 8-10am.
Tuesday, November 30 will find us at the Wollongong Council Building, where the “Living Library” will have a selection of talking books available to speak about how HIV has impacted on their lives. The Living Library will run form 10am-12pm. Following the Living Library, from 1pm ACON Southern Region will be throwing open the doors of the office to services and the community to meet new staff and familiarise themselves with new resources before a BBQ and candlelit memorial from 5pm-7pm.
As usual, on World AIDS Day, December 1, teams of volunteers will be hitting Wollongong Mall and other locations all over the country selling ribbons to raise money and awareness for vital HIV services in our communities. If you would like to volunteer to sell ribbons or host a box at your business, contact your nearest ACON office – and show your support by wearing a red ribbon.
To close out the week in the Illawarra, The Phoenix Theatre is presenting a cabaret fundraiser for ACON on Saturday 4 December. Lots of local performers are volunteering their time and skills for what is shaping up to be a great showcase of talent, as well as an excellent night of entertainment. Entry is by donation and doors open at 7:30pm, The Phoenix Theatre 24 Bridge Street Coniston. Bookings can be made through [email protected] I hope to see many out on the streets spreading the message during AIDS Awareness Week.
Please check the ACON website for information on local events and ways to volunteer.
