CLEAR CHOICE

Again, the gay community has a clear choice (Global Gay: Israel, “Gays ‘not people’ ”, SSO 1077).

Accept a God that says we are an abomination or reject the Bible as a work of fiction. As for the Israeli Deputy Education Minister saying we should become straight, it’s like telling a Jew to believe in Jesus.

— Stuart

TRY CANADA

The Australian Government might not recognise our marriage but they bloody well can’t stop it. Ontario authorities required no such document when we got married there.

EMBARRASSED

I could get all mean and nasty about her and her Government but the more practical thing to do is simply to withhold my vote (‘PM challenged on “mean-spirited” policy’, SSO 1077).

I will not vote for someone who refuses me basic human rights. If you are not gay, think about what it would be like if Prime Minister Julia Gillard took a stand against your right to marry as a heterosexual.

It is preposterous and naive of her and she is frankly stupid to alienate such a large portion of Australian citizens, their families, friends and supporters.

I am embarrassed by this Government. It is behaving very badly on many fronts not the least of which is the refugee situation.

It will not have my support as things stand now.

— Robin

FED UP

It’s good enough for this pathetic Government to demand my husband’s financial affairs in my tax return because we are a bona fide couple under Australian tax law, but it then refuses recognition of my lawful Dutch marriage (‘PM challenged on “mean-spirited” policy’, SSO 1077).

Australians are fed up with these meaningless double standards that constitute nothing more than discrimination.

Our federal member, Mr Albanese, was happy to offer that this issue is just not big enough among voters.

Not good enough, Julia!

— Ric

AWESOME

This is an awesome result — and dinner with the Independents too is a great bonus! (‘$31K to meet with Gillard’, Star Online)

I can’t always attend rallies and protests, but although I don’t have much money, it felt great to donate (my family and friends also donated). More please!

— Will

A WORD TO KATTER

I hope when they meet with the Independents, someone points out to Katter that suicide in the farming community (which he so loudly and rightly protests) is not always about losing income (‘$31K to meet with Gillard’, Star Online).

I’d love for someone to serve him a few statistics about suicide rates of regional Australians as a result of sexuality/gender identity issues.

He loves to spout ‘XX farmers a week were committing suicide’ — I’d love to hear what he has to say.

— Kris

GETUP! COMMENDED

At a time when no political party is actually doing (as opposed to talking about) anything on this issue, it’s great to see Australian Marriage Equality and Get Up! championing our rights on our behalf.

I commend you and I support you. Anyone who supports marriage equality in Australia send a donation to Get Up! with your thanks, and do it today.

— Michael

THANK YOU BGF

Unfortunately HIV/AIDS is still an unpopular subject in the news media and as such doesn’t receive much air time (‘BGF rethinks fundraising’ SSO 1077).

While there are obviously problems within BGF, they should be congratulated and supported for their work in this area.

In rural and suburban areas the mere mention of HIV/AIDS generally triggers a look of absolute terror and a physical step backwards! I hope those in the ‘gay community’ won’t take a similar step backwards, ignoring the often thankless work BGF continues to do.
