GLCS – new men’s group
GLCS is launching a new men’s group on Thursday, April 7.
Talking It Out: A Men’s Group Exploring Issues and Sexuality is a social support group — a safe and friendly place for guys to meet and talk about various topics around sexuality and other life issues.
Each session is facilitated by trained male volunteers. Each group is structured around a particular topic but the content is flexible on the night and the format is informal.
Discussion topics include coming out or staying in?; playing safe and negotiating boundaries; healthy relationships; navigating homophobia; family matters; being happy.
From April 7, Talking It Out meets every first and third Thursday of the month, 7-9pm, at 43 Bedford St, Newtown. Please note that the space is only accessible via a flight of stairs and facilitators can only let people in between 6.50-7.30pm unless previously arranged.
You don’t need to register beforehand or commit to each session. Come along once, drop in infrequently or attend regularly, whatever suits you.
Talking It Out is not purely a social group — while it’s a great place to meet other guys and make new friends, the main aim is to create a safe space for discussion and social support.
We’ll launch Social Saturdays later in 2011 for those seeking a social group in Newtown. There will be more info about this in coming months.
To speak to someone about coming out, relationships, sexuality, identity or any other issue, call our Counselling and Information Line on 02 8594 9596 (1800 184 527 regional freecall), daily 5.30-9.30pm.
Lesbian Line (for women, by women) is open Mondays 5.30–9.30pm on 02 8594 9595 (1800 144 527 regional freecall).
Women’s Coming Out Group meets every second and fourth Thursday of the month.
