Wear It Purple achieves record amount of support

WEAR聽it Purple Day聽organisers have announced that 2014 has seen the initiative聽receive its highest level of support since inception in 2010.

Over 100,000 people are set to “wear it purple” tomorrow in support of sex, sexuality and/or gender diverse youth.

Wear it Purple president Jayde Ellis-Pavlou said: 鈥Wear it Purple Day is a vehicle for individuals, schools and organisations alike to add their voice of support for rainbow young people, affirming that聽they have the right to be proud of who they are.”

People are encouraged to get their purple items out of the closet to show rainbow young people that they are supported and that inclusive environments exist throughout the wider community.

Registrations for the day have been received nationwide from over 130 schools, 90 organisations and 25 tertiary institutions, and participation will span across Australia.

Ellis-Pavlou said聽that 鈥淲ear it Purple Day provides a much needed opportunity for schools to declare their support to their rainbow students鈥.

鈥淔or the young people themselves, it is not only an unparalleled opportunity to be publicly and nationally celebrated, but also a much needed chance to be agents of change in their own environments,” she added.

The Wear it Purple Youth Action Council (YAC) have this year set their sights on breaking down the stereotypes that surround sex, sexuality and or gender diversity.

The organisation has also聽continued its聽relationship with NSW Police and other NSW-based emergency services this year (pictured below), along with Telstra and the BT Financial Group.

  1. One of the aims of Wear it Purple is:

for rainbow young people to be safe, supported and empowered in each of their environments.

If this group really supported diversity, then it would support ALL young people in feeling safe, supported and empowered, not JUST rainbow young people.

This group operates on exclusivity, not inclusivity.

    • Except that young gay people are statistically far more likely to be the victim of hate crimes and homophobic violence. But don’t let the facts get in the way of your rant now will you.

      • Gays are statistically more inclined to be abused and assaulted by fellow homosexuals, ala the Meat Market, than by homophobes. It’s just easy to shift the blame to homophobes.

BTW, 3 sentences does not constitute a rant!

        • No they aren’t Mike. Another lie. Assuming that you are heterosexual, why aren’t you lot concerned about the sky rocketing abuse and murder of children at the hands of your fellow heterosexuals that we see almost daily in the news? Or are you going to blame that on us too?

          • David wrote, “why aren鈥檛 you lot concerned about the sky rocketing abuse and murder of children at the hands of your fellow heterosexuals that we see almost daily in the news?”

Actually I am very concerned by this, that’s why I’m anti-abortion, as that is where the bulk of our children are killed…in utero.

  2. Right, all you need is to get a Principal on board and you get a whole school. Yep, a classic method of communistic subversion at play. It’s called a soft target. Despots understand that the best way to build support for their cause is to penetrate schools. You can turn children against parents and the nation that way. Once again, soft target tactics.

  3. Purple was worn by the Caesars of Rome given its rare , expensive and even hard to get colour so the homosexuals and other ignorant persons who think purple is a proper colour to represent lewd conduct may be thinking of Caligula or Nero due to them being so corrupt and dangerous. In this, its possibly appropriate that homosexuals have chosen purple.
To support the act of homosexuality is ill conceived (no punt intended). We acknowledge the so called “gay Health Crisis”.
