New guard at MCC Sydney

A new generation of young people is at the helm of the Metropolitan Community Church鈥檚 (MCC) entry into the 2012 Mardi Gras Parade.

Christopher Entwistle, 23, and Alex Pittaway, 22, are organising this year鈥檚 float and are part of a recent increase in younger members joining MCC Sydney at Mardi Gras. Pittaway said he felt honoured to be able to express his faith to Sydney鈥檚 LGBT community.

鈥淥ur theme borrows from the Lady Gaga song, Born This Way, with 鈥楪od makes no mistakes鈥欌,鈥 Pittaway said.

鈥淪o often the church has told gay and lesbian people that they are a mistake that needs fixing. Chris and I are passionate about telling a different story at Mardi Gras: that God does not make mistakes and Christ鈥檚 love for God鈥檚 children is all-inclusive.

鈥淭his year we鈥檒l be kicking off with a blessing of Mardi Gras Service which I encourage all to attend, on February 19 at 6.30pm.鈥

MCC Sydney attracts upwards of 80 people to its two Sunday services, with a traditional service at 10am and a contemporary service at 6.30pm.

鈥淭here are still places available on the MCC鈥檚 parade float, and all are welcome to participate.
