Melbourne loses De Luxe diva
Melbourne has lost another drag queen with the death of Adam Cormack (Kitty De Luxe) on Friday around 4.30pm. He was 30.
The drag identity helped establish the Victorian chapter of the It Gets Better Australia project to assist young people struggling to deal with their sexuality.
De Luxe most recently performed at gay bar DnM in Commercial Rd and took to the stage for the Gay Prom night to raise money for the It Gets Better campaign.
Former gay event promoter Lawrence Prasad said he met De Luxe at a 鈥榮tar search鈥� competition at the old Diva Bar on Commercial Rd, now Priscilla鈥檚.
鈥淗e was a young queen full of life, he loved drag, he loved the whole persona, he loved the whole culture,鈥� Prasad told the Star Observer.
鈥淗e never had a bad word to say about anyone in the industry.
鈥淔or him it was about unity of the community and that is what he worked to achieve.鈥�
Friend and business partner Michael J said he would remember Cormack for his love of Britney Spears and the arts.
鈥淗e always performed a Britney number on stage,鈥� J said. 鈥淗e was passionate about the arts and entertainment.
鈥淸His drag persona] was his way to express himself through dress and makeup.鈥�
J said the cause of Cormack鈥檚 death is still to be investigated by the coroner.
It鈥檚 understood he suffered a heart attack following a seizure.
The news comes as Melbourne鈥檚 LGBTI community mourns the loss of Pokeys and Les Girls legend Ren茅e Scott who died on March 25.
The drag legend started her performing career with Les Girls at the Ritz in 1973 where she became renowned for her Night and Day performance with Graham Pengilly.
Scott鈥檚 funeral will be held on Wednesday.
