Jetstar sorry for ‘I Am Gay’ scrawl on passenger’s baggage
Jetstar has launched an internal investigation into how a man flying from Perth over the weekend had the words ‘I Am Gay’ scrawled in large letters over his baggage with stickers.
The man had been on a Jetstar flight that departed Perth Airport soon after midnight on Sunday, October 13.聽Upon landing, the married father-of-two turned to Twitter to write of his amazement after his large red suitcase was the first to come out of the baggage carousel with the phrase ‘I Am Gay’ scrawled across it. The message was seemingly made from checked baggage stickers.
鈥淯tterly disgusted to find my luggage front and centre on the @JetstarAirways luggage carousel looking like this,鈥 the Twitter user known as @aaronpp tweeted with a photo.
鈥淚 think it happened at Perth airport. It’s the luggage sticker tags for the flight. Add passenger #privacy to you concerns.鈥
The man’s message on Twitter received over 150 retweets forcing Jetstar, a wholly owned subsidiary of airline giant Qantas, to apologise.
“I’m very sorry to see that,鈥 a Jetstar spokeswoman said. 鈥淪o we can investigate this internally, please direct message us your booking reference.鈥
While other Twitter users called for the airline to sack any employees involved, the man at the centre of the incident said he couldn’t think of a motive for the vandalism and believed it was more important that awareness was raised about bigotry and discrimination.
鈥淚 know nobody there. It was after midnight and the flight delayed over an hour… idle hands, perhaps,鈥 the man Tweeted.
鈥淚’d rather have broad consciousness raising over job losses.鈥
Only a few hours before the flight the man had tweeted about how he had enjoyed his time in the 鈥渕agnificent鈥 city of Perth.
鈥淗eading home from WA in a little while,鈥 he wrote on Twitter. 鈥淓verything here seems to be in order.鈥
The Star Observer has contacted both Jetstar as well as the passenger involved.

Why is it “utterly disgusting” to be called gay? It says more about the problems in the society towards homosexuality.
Perhaps that person was referring to themselves.
There are many morons in Australia and some work in baggage distribution!
