Brokeback Mountain the Opera

BROKEMAN Mountain the Opera is set to open in Madrid’s Teatro Real (Royal Theatre) this month.
The 1997 short story-turned-2005 Academy Award-winning movie was originally set for the stages of New York, but it moved to Madrid with the opera’s General Director Gerard Mortier, who took the show with him to his new post at the Teatro Real.
The two-act, 22-scene opera was conceived in August 2008 and completed in February 2012 and is set to open on January 28.
As far as the intimate scenes go, no information has been provided on how the live opera adaptation will go. However, the Star Observer understands that it was because of the intimate scenes and the creative direction that the show never made it to the stages of New York.
Set to play Ennis del Mar and Jack Twist are Canadian bass-baritone Daniel Okulitchand and American tenor Thomas Randle.
