AFTER five years, the DNA Magazine pool party has become one of those events that are crossed off calendars months in advance because of the bliss of lazing around the Ivy Pool deck on a Sydney summer Saturday, in a fun community setting.
The Star Observer first caught up with the man that started it all, DNA Magazine’s founder Andrew Creagh to ask about preparations over a spot of breakfast two months ago and he was teased by asking him “will you be having the egg white omelette,” but he whipped back: “I’m pool ready just as I am – I’ll be having the brekkie burger.
“Just because there are sexy men in speedos around doesn’t mean it is some Sydney-plastic-glamour party. People expect it to be sceney and pretentious and judgemental but it actually isn’t.
“You haven’t been to one have you?” Creagh goads “because if you had your would know that as well as the fabulously sexy cover models floating around, we have a huge turnout from all parts of community.”
The next time we caught up with Creagh was at Government House for World AIDS Day on December 1 and he did look a little more tanned than last time.
The Pool Party is this Saturday and for someone who’s hosting a party that has a reputation as one of Sydney’s sexiest, Creagh is pretty laid back about not being “pool-party ready”.
“I have a spray tan and get a hair cut. That’s it. On the day I wear a big hat and sunnies – it’s about fun and not getting sunburned for me. People sometime say “I’m not pool party ready!” I say, don’t worry I’ll bring enough emergency kaftans for both of us! I’m not wearing bulge hugging Aussie Bums to the party but I really appreciate that other people do,” he said.
“Only for those that sit on Santa’s lap will they be asked if they are naughty or nice. Our sexy Santa is not cruel like the one from the North Pole, he just matches the present to whichever one you’ve been so the naughty ones don’t miss out.”
He then whispered: Â “You can’t print what their present is though.”
“And for the big burly guys, our Santa will hold you, no worries” he said, with a cheeky grin.
