Carnival, T-Dance and Confetti to kick off Midsumma with a bang
THE biggest day on Melbourne鈥檚 LGBTI calendar is here, with this Sunday seeing the much-anticipated return of Midsumma festival鈥檚 Carnival day to Alexandra Gardens.
Bring along your friends and family for an all-ages day in the beautiful surrounds of the garden, and take the opportunity to catch up with everyone you probably haven鈥檛聽seen since last year鈥檚 Carnival.
A who鈥檚 who of Melbourne鈥檚 LGBTI community is hosting the聽main stage line-up, with MCs includ- ing Dolly Diamond, Nathan Little and Jade Leonard.
That鈥檚 before we even get to the on-stage talent, with a showcase of performers from Midsumma鈥檚 hottest music, theatre and cabaret acts strut- ting their stuff.
Catch snippets from acts like Oprahfication and Va Va Boombah Gala, and see the contestants from and Miss Gay and Miss Transsexual Australia 2014.
Over on the Victorian AIDS Council Community Stage, festival- goers have the chance to get connected with a mix of performance and community forums, including discussions on the Sexually Adventurous Men Project, the ENUF Campaign and YGender.
LGBTI sporting organisation Team Melbourne and beyond- blue are also hosting the Sporting Precinct, with sports, games and presentations on all day for people of all ages and sporting abilities.
Kidz Zone from the Rainbow Families Council will also be a part of the day, ensuring there will be lots to do at Carnival for kids and adults alike.
The party really gets started once Carnival ends, with two massive par- ties happening as the evening sets in.
Midsumma鈥檚 annual outdoor party T-Dance starts at 6pm, with a huge line-up of local DJs and musical acts making this festival institution a must.
Afterwards, head to the new 鈥渒id on the block鈥 party Confetti, which sees the teams behind local queer parties Grouse Party, John Homosocial and Flawless Queer Salon use their unholy alliance for good, with international sensations The Presets headlining a world-class line-up from 8pm.
The first day of Midsumma is certainly starting with a bang and it鈥檚 not to be missed – but it鈥檚 only the tip of the iceberg.
Until February 2, there are a range of events lined up for the annual festival.
