NSW Police have turned this town into a police state. Most of the clubs have closed, there’s a terrible vibe on the streets, people are angry, this town is no fun anymore, it wasn’t always like this.

I point to NSW Police, their pervasiveness, their attitude, their thuggery and their drug dogs for this change.

NSW Police should be banned from Mardi Gras, they will wreck yet another party!!!

Well done Stacey for writing what I thought was a very balanced and objective account of what you saw, and as readers of SSO might note – I too have shared my observations of NSW Police – in action – on more than one occasion. What strikes me again and again is the arrogance and violence many NSW police demonstrate – they repeatedly attacked (punched, kicked and smashed my partner onto the cement over and over again), they abused my partner in front of me, told him to ‘fuck off fag’ and ‘piss off fag’ and they proceeded to make an illegal arrest of me knowing full well they were doing so – they didn’t care – I had to take them to court and get a Magistrate to throw their charges out the door. Many / most NSW Police I have dealt with are rotten corrupt liars – violent thugs who lie as a matter of daily routine – and nothing but a total overhaul of NSW Police – full re- training – get rid of many of them and start from scratch with a police force who actually have a notion of customer service and serving the community vs the power obsessed violent psychos that we seem to have now.

My advice is to film them. A dozen or so party goers should stand a respectful distance from the police and calmly and respectfully held up their phones and filmed every interaction between the police and “subjects”.

The mere presence of cameras will change the behavior of the police. And if there is an mistreatment then authorities or media or Youtube will be more compelled to take action or more viable places to host evidence.

Key is for those taking videos to be passive (not interfering with the police) and polite (move further back if asked).
