Many women want exercise that is fun, engaging and unique. Roller derby might be the answer. Northern Rivers Roller Derby launched its league with fanfare on 15 May 15.
If you fancy yourself as a roller derby girl, get down to the Lismore Skate Rink on Thursdays from 6pm. A group of 50 women is learning derby skills each week for $10 entry?
Designed to invoke thought and action in young people about social justice and human rights, a program for senior high school students, Everybody’s Business: Human Rights and Social Justice in C21st will be held Monday, June 7 at Southern Cross University. It starts at 9am and concludes with a discussion panel of students from Northern Rivers high schools at 3pm.
All young people are encouraged to attend. Of particular interest to students of diverse sexuality may be a session from 11am-noon titled ‘Sexuality and Social Justice’. For details, call ACON on (02) 6622 1555.
Who cares if Marie really said it, but on Saturday, June 12 you can do it with Tropical Fruits as they present ‘Let them eat cake’ at the Italo Club, Barrow Lane, North Lismore from 8pm. Tickets are $30 at the door. Details: www.tropicalfruits.org.au
An ongoing activity in the Northern Rivers for HIV positive people is the fortnightly Luncheon Club. It will be held again on Fridays June 4 and 18, July 2, 16 and 30. Good company, health information and a delicious lunch. For details ring Neil on 6622 1555.
