Party with the cowgirls
October and November are great months for community events.
On Saturday, October 16, to celebrate International Lesbian Day, Illawarra and Shoalhaven lesbian groups (REAL and LISA respectively) are hosting the annual Cowgirls Twilight Dance Party.
The party includes a BBQ dinner, the dance, shows, prizes and a camp out with breakfast. It’s at the Agricultural Hall, Berry. Dinner starts the fun at 6pm. This is an 18+ event, BYO. Organisers encourage responsible drinking practices.
The dance itself is from 7pm-midnight for $10. Overnight camping on site for $5. Dinner and breakfast are a gold coin donation. Contact 0431 887 770 or [email protected] for more information.
For those into musicals, the Phoenix Theatre in Wollongong will present a ‘Broadway Cabaret’ on Friday, October 15. This is a fundraiser to finish off the theatre’s renovations. Help support a community-based theatre committed to supporting the GLBT community by coming along. Doors open at 7.30pm. Booking in advance is essential: [email protected]
October also sees the return of the UNITY Diners Club. The first event will be at La Marina Tapas Bar and Restaurant, 130 Keira St, Wollongong on Tuesday, October 19. RSVP to 0403 899 015 to book and for more details.
On November 12-14, Reynolds Run, Molong (near Orange) will host a women’s-only country camp where you can party with the cowgirl of your dreams. It costs $5 per person for the weekend and will feature stage acts. BYO everything you need to camp. There is a pick-up service from Molong train station. Contact Beth on 0403 801 133 or [email protected] for more details.
Have fun, take care and play safe.
