Dean, If the LNP win Griffith then Tony Abbott could use that win as justification that the voters in the electorate of Griffith don’t support marriage equality – hence giving Tony Abbott reasoning in banning his party members voting in support of a marriage equality bill.

Another Labor Party vote in favour of marriage equality means nothing in the scheme of things. If there is yet another voice in the Coalition party room calling for a change in policy, then that is clearly the best possible outcome for marriage equality in the long run. Any suggestion to the contrary is ill-informed and unrealistic.
