loved it Rita
ever since you started this column you have injected a little ‘opinion’ back into the gay street press where it has been sorely lacking. It is exciting to read your reports on the lives of the glamorous and trashy! I used to love reading the gossip columns in the gay press each week – recognising thinly veiled stories of people I knew or knew about at events or places that I had been to or heard about.
It’s fun to read about your community in the paper!!!
What is the story nowdays that all gay people have to have the same opinion about everything?
A ‘correct’ gay response?
Rita tells it how she sees it and I say more power to you girl. If we all simply agreed with what we were told to think and act and believe then that would be just crap.
I like all types of drag – from trashy to brilliant – but that doesn’t mean that I don’t hear what Rita is saying. And I can remember back (though not as far back as dirt for make up in caves…!) when drag performers really did make some serious effort to create spectacle, glamour, event, occasion, and have also thought that the standard of shows at Mardi Gras has fallen in comparison over the years, so you go Rita. Say it like it is, speak your opinion – which is I imagine why they hired you to write the column – and let your freak flag fly honey, don’t hide it let it shine
