He has sided with the Nazi Party’s treatment of gay people by comparing us, as gay people, to the very fiends who in fact made it their mission in life to exterminate us. This cartoon reveals, even under the most generous interpretations, that the man has no idea of precisely how evil his views on equal rights for gay people are.
To you, Bill Leak, I say this: Get an education. Learn the truth of what this debate is actually about: religiously-inspired and driven hatred of a minority versus that minority’s desire to live as equals in society and without the morals of a religion that desires our extinction being made the laws of the land.
We are not the monsters in this equation. The monsters are the priests, ministers, pastors, imams, rabbis and others who use their religion’s views to justify the State depriving us of our rights. The monsters are the haters who want to continue hating; they’re not the people just looking to be legally equal to you.
Australia, as a nation, claims to embrace the principal of a separation between Church and State. Such a view must, of necessity, include refusing to allow religious dogma to decide the laws of the land. And since the only justifications for marginalization of gay people are found solely in religious dogma, then the State must decree that this legal discrimination between gay people and heterosexual people is unjustifiable, unconscionable, and ultimately unconstitutional.
