No move toward full equality and queer human rights will ever be achieved until there is a constitutional bill of rights that defies politicians sympathy or antipathy
Human rights
are NOT
1. voted on with a majority vote or a conscience vote, they are sacred INALIENABLE rights for ALL of us
2.are not up for discussion or sunset clauses or exemptions as we see in the disgraceful window dressing of the present federal anti discrimination “act” supposedly protecting queer australians that EXEMPT ALLthe major bigots including tax payer funded religious institutions who also enjoy not-for-profit status

This piece is somewhat unfair to Bill Shorten, given he was one of the first (then) Government Ministers to personally support marriage equality, back in 2010 (a long time before his ACL address).

Totally Agreed, you can’t convince Tony Abbott, he doesn’t care about the LGBT community even though he has a sister who’s in a loving relationship with her partner, he still thinks that Marriage is between a Man and a Woman and he thinks that acting on Marriage Equality is not a priority.
