Voters take campaign into their own hands
A series of video responses to the wave of anti-gay sentiment whipped up by the Queensland state election campaign have hit the web, with members of the LGBT community and their supporters angry at being made a political football in recent weeks.
One particular video came from Jonathan Duffy – a filmmaker behind the award-winning documentary The Doctor’s Wife – who said he was compelled to get his message out after the recent “hate-driven” campaigns.
He encourages Queensland voters to send a message to all MPs and candidates across the state that hate will not win their vote.
In another video, Brisbane’s Oscar Theatre Company takes a different tack, parodying the anti-gay political advertisment from Katter’s Australia Party.
A compilation of comments from Australian Party leader Bob Katter are used in the video to show his opposition to same-sex marriage as a negative.
Queenslanders take to the polls this Saturday, March 24.
