Talking trans
The editor-in-chief of DUDE trans male zine is taking his positive trans message on the road in an effort to build a stronger and wider network and national community.
Jez Pez鈥檚 DUDE community project, which has been compared to Daniel Witthaus鈥 Beyond
That鈥檚 So Gay intitiative, will see a road trip and speaking tour to community centres in regional and rural communities in NSW, Queensland and Victoria.
鈥淚鈥檓 appointing state representatives and hoping to build a network of queer support groups, youth groups, community health centres and medical clinics, and set up workshops over time to go out and present to rural and regional communities,鈥 Pez told the Star Observer.
It鈥檚 hoped these workshops will improve education, services and awareness regarding the issues of 鈥渢ransmasculine people鈥 and sex and gender diversity.
鈥淲e want to give people who are isolated and not connected to trans culture in the city the chance to feel empowered, and while DUDE is focused on the transmasculity end of the spectrum, this initiative is for all in the trans community,鈥 Pez said.
鈥淲e want the wider queer community to be aware of the complexity of the issue and hopefully the broader community beyond that.鈥
