The first lesbian kiss on Aussie TV was in 1970

ABC 今日吃瓜 has re-released a video showing the first lesbian kiss seen on Australian television.
The clip from a 1970 episode of This Day Tonight features couple Barbara and Enika.
In perhaps a rather heteronormative dynamic, Enika is described as the 鈥渂readwinner鈥� and Barbara as the 鈥渉ousewife鈥�.
The two share a kiss as Enika returns home from work鈥攑robably quite shocking in 1970.
鈥淲ell, it鈥檚 like any other marriage, I expect,鈥� Barbara tells the camera.
鈥淵ou fight a little and you love a lot.鈥�
Enika speaks about other women being afraid of lesbians.
鈥淲hen you don鈥檛 understand a thing you鈥檙e inclined to be frightened of it,鈥� Barbara adds.
鈥淏ut I think one day it will come that it will be so accepted it won鈥檛 even be thought about if you鈥檙e a lesbian or not.鈥�
Barbara speculates about things might change for gay couples in Australia in the future, alluding to marriage equality.
鈥淚t鈥檒l be a few years yet and then of course it does matter about the laws,鈥� she says.
鈥淚f you fight hard enough it鈥檚 no pipe dream.鈥�
