Safe Schools co-founder steps down from government role
ONE of the founders of the Safe Schools Coalition program has stepped down from her government advisory role.
Roz Ward was appointed as an advisor to the Victorian聽government鈥檚 on LGBTI education聽and improving equality for all students.
Ward’s resignation from the role was announced after questions were asked about a Facebook posts where Ward allegedly labelled the Australian flag as racist. It is not clear if that is the reason Ward resigned.
According to The Australian, Ward made the post on Tuesday after the Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews officially apologised to men convicted of homosexuality crimes and raised the rainbow flag above the state’s Parliament House.
The Facebook post allegedly said: 鈥淣ow we just need to get rid of the racist Australian flag on top of state parliament and get a red one up there and my work is done.鈥
Ward works at LaTrobe University where the Safe Schools program was developed – designed to help LGBTI school children. Prior Ward led a national community youth inclusion project at Community Matters and a national youth grants scheme as part of The Scarman Trust in the United Kingdom. Ward also has a Masters in Gender Studies.
