Concerns current JOY94.9 board members may be applying for paid positions at the Melbourne GLBTI radio station have been played down.
JOY94.9 president Stephen Duns last week confirmed any current board member applying for a paid position at the station must step down from the board during the process.
The reassurance comes as Southern Star learned that at least one board member had applied for one of two roles on offer, and another board member was thought to have been interested in applying.
According to Section 31.2 of JOY94.9鈥檚 Rules of Association and Constitution, current board members are ineligible to apply for any paid or contracted work opportunity at the station.
鈥淎ny board member who wants to apply for a job would have to step down in order to take on that new role, that鈥檚 true,鈥� Duns told Southern Star.
鈥淚f that were the case, anyone who is being considered for that role would, at least on a temporary basis, have to step down to go through the process.鈥�
The rule is in place as board

members could potentially have insider access to information about other candidates.
The station currently has two vacant positions. Applications for general manager closed last week and applications for broadcast manager close today, September 17.
Duns wouldn鈥檛 confirm or deny if any board members had applied for the roles.
鈥淚鈥檓 not going to confirm who鈥檚 applied. I don鈥檛 think that鈥檚 fair on any of the candidates. I don鈥檛 think it鈥檚 helpful to the process to confirm who鈥檚 applying,鈥� he said.
Duns would only confirm the positions have attracted an 鈥渆xtremely strong field鈥�.
The station was forced to find a new general manager after the sudden departure of station manager Stephen Hahn last month. The position of broadcast manager is the result of a restructure announced shortly before Hahn鈥檚 departure.
Those applying for the roles will face a panel of five interviewers 鈥� three board members and two external panellists, ALSO Foundation CEO Lyn Morgain and former Triple R station manager Kath Letch.
