Flash mob in Melbourne encourages passers-by to vote Yes to SSM

Melburnians were treated to a flash dance mob of roughly 50 LGBTI people and their allies over the weekend, to coincide with a rally for marriage equality that saw thousands take to the streets to encourage Australia to vote ‘yes’.

The group formed at Federation Square to dance before heading to the State Library for an encore performance amongst rally-goers.

They danced to hits from Pink, Kylie Minogue, and Lady Gaga, while calling for equality and reminding people to get their votes in before the survey closes.

Thousands then marched through Melbourne’s streets towards Alexandra Gardens where a stage had been set up for band Spiderbait to perform.

Similar rallies in Sydney, Adelaide, and Brisbane were held over the weekend as well.

With the marriage survey closing on November 7, this is the final week that votes can be mailed in.

The result of the survey will be announced on November 15.
