In reply to Paul. Not quite like that Paul - there are a lot of supporters of marriage equality within the LNP not to mention gay conservatives. It is just that at this time the ultra conservatives have the numbers to strategically hinder things but that will pass. Don't forget the ALP doesn't exactly have a thumping core of supporters either and their so called promise of passing legislation is still fraught with difficulties for them - so best to take a step back and put a little balance into the situation.

why would the ALP propose to change the current legislation if they did not campaign on it?….. seems a little hypocritical considering it was not in the ALP policy documents released just proper to the election and there was no announcement made to mainstream media

Surprise, surprise, the LNP opposes any or all LGBTI law reform! Remember this at every local, state, territory and federal elections everyone! What a total bunch of bigoted jokers and a fucking utter disgrace the LNP really are, still stuck in the early 20th century! This is the very same political party in Queensland, that even repealed the Queensland Civil Partnership Act 2011!
