It is 2015 same-sex couples should have the same legal rights to adopt children – as they currently do in NSW, TAS, ACT and WA for years now! Victoria is about to introduce legislation to allow this, South Australia will make a decision at the end of 2015 or in early 2016. Labor is in power in both VIC and SA and hopefully make the equality call!

Queensland under minority government, Labor did not make any election promises on adoption, so the adoption law 2009 will stay as it is as expected, until after the next election (hoping Labor will win a majority in 2018 – no fixed terms in Queensland)!

No word on adoption in the Northern Territory, governed under Country Liberals until the next election in August 2016!
