According to this article, the ASB has told Council they will not review the poster.

If the ASB is not blocking the poster – then what is the real reason for banning it???

A hysterical reaction to a poster based on sexuality. It is about time homophobia resulted in criminal sanctions against offenders. That would result in a special jail for Pollies. We should take a stand against this Russian style attack on a simple bloody poster. It is meant to be Queensland, not Plutin’s homophobic Russia.

The image was pulled after discussion between the council and the signage company. We gave them another image from the same photo shoot, knowing we can’t force those two organisations to run the original image.

Maybe I’m trying to put too positive a spin on a difficult situation, and if that’s the case, feel free to say whatever you like.

But we’re also the venue that had Jinkx Monsoon, Black Faggot and four LGBTI themed shows we showcased at the Performing Arts Market THIS MONTH. We have queer comics this week at the Comedy Festival, we have BQFF, we have Oscar, the Cabaret Festival and arguably more queer performance than any arts centre in Australia.

This is an incredibly difficult and sad situation, and don’t assume for a second we don’t know that.

It’s the 21st Century not the 18th Century !!
It still amazes me and other people that two men kissing in the surf attracts so much negative attention.
This poster will not shock the youth of today at all.
This goes to show everyone by doing so how regressive the state of Queensland and in particular Brisbane city council is.

Saying the new image “…still embodies the affection and intimacy between the two men.”

If that’s your idea of intimacy and affection, I’d be suggesting counselling. The models are not touching, they are not even LOOKING at each other. Their gaze is disinterested and cold.

The images to promote the Festival were a homage to classic film couples. To what is this a homage? “Stepford Wives”?

Absolute sell-out and disgraceful by the Brisbane Powerhouse to buckle under to one homophobic, bigoted, right-wing Councillor.

The Brisbane Queer Film Festival should be removed from the BPH and promoted elsewhere, where fear and callous betrayal doesn’t live.
