The Bake-Off goes off (3/7/2003)
The Bobby Goldsmith Foundation doubled its fundraising result from 2002 with last Sunday’s Bake-Off event, held at the Midnight Shift.
In excess of $30,000 was raised, which a BGF spokesperson described as one of the best results we’ve had for years.
More than 1,000 people gathered for the display and auctioning of the 50-plus entries. As is traditional for the BGF Bake-Off event, there were some daring entries, including one diorama of a gingerbread beat scene (complete with glory holes and George Michael soundtrack).
Another piece, entitled Trof Cock, featured a leather-trussed chicken lying in a urinal.
The popularity of the event took everyone by surprise, the BGF spokesperson said. It was great to see everyone rally around and be so generous.
The judges for this year’s event were Claire de Lune, Martin Boetz from Longrain restaurant and Australia’s culinary grand dame Margaret Fulton, who went down like a storm with the crowd, said the BGF spokesperson.
