Sunday sign-up for Outgames

The 1st Asia Pacific Outgames in Melbourne 2008 is holding a special Sydney registration day this Sunday 16 September at the first floor of the Brighton Hotel.
The event starts at 1pm and finishes at 4pm. Team Sydney co-president, Geoffrey Radford, said the event is open to all.
People can now register direct on the Melbourne 2008 website, Radford said.
They will also be having a stall at Team Sydney’s Sport Day Out, which will be held on Sunday 7 October.
There is a $60 entrant fee to participate in the games as well as an event fee. The Melbourne Outgames is the largest gay sporting event to hit Australia since the 2002 Gay Games in Sydney.
This is the first time for many years that such an event has been planned concentrating on the Asia Pacific region, Radford said.
There used to be an event called the Australian Gaymes, but that has lapsed so there is quite a lot of excitement that the Outgames are holding their first regional event.
It’s a chance to meet other sporting groups not just from your own city but from Australia and some of our neighbouring countries.
The gay and lesbian multi-sport event will be staged in Melbourne from 30 January to 3 February 2008, during the Midsumma festival. The first World Outgames was held in Montr? Canada in 2006, and attracted more than 12,000 participants.
Participants who register before 10 October will be in the draw to win a $500 STA Travel voucher, plus 12-month subscriptions to Sydney Star Observer, DNA and LOTL.
Outgames co-president Peter Sagar said the organisation had made every attempt to keep costs at a minimum and, as a result, would offer a two-tiered fee structure.
Participants will pay an Outgames participant fee first, followed by their chosen activity fee, being either conference or a sport, Sagar said.
The Outgames participant fee is paid only once regardless of the number of activities chosen. The Outgames participant fee covers the costs including the provision of gold, silver and bronze medals, participant accreditation information, support and identification for Outgames volunteers, administration, taxes, fees and a contribution to the official celebrations.
