Sleaze gets dirty again

This year Sleaze Ball is returning to its dark and dirty roots. And no, that doesn’t mean the return of sex in backrooms.

Research conducted by New Mardi Gras found partygoers want Sleaze to be darker, dirtier, sleazier and sexier -“ more like the way it used to be.

According to the research, many people felt that in the last few years Sleaze had become a carbon copy of the Mardi Gras party and that there should be more of a distinction between the two.

People say Mardi Gras is more about fun and celebration, glitz and glamour, while Sleaze should have a rougher, more raw, sexual edge to it, New Mardi Gras spokesperson Mark Orr said.

People are harking back to the days when it used to be like that.

Orr said they hoped to achieve this kind of atmosphere at the party on 2 October with a suitably sexy theme (which won’t be revealed until early August), sleazy decor in each venue and by appropriately dark and dirty music.

This year’s DJs will be chosen using a new selection process. In previous years DJs simply sent in a demo of what they thought we might want to hear, Orr said.

This time we’ve already decided what kind of music we want played in the different venues and we will provide that specific information to the DJs who express their interest in playing at Sleaze Ball.
