Shauna slides in to Bacharach’s love nest
She’s lesbian royalty in the queer world and on Wednesday 21 November Shauna Jensen will be performing music by legendary Burt Bacharach at Slide.
The song list is massive and she spent weeks making sure she had the right choices. On the night Jensen will be accompanied by instrumentalists including a saxophonist and percussionist, as well as Jamie Rigg on piano.
“The reason I love these songs is because the melodies are so beautiful and they’re evergreens,” Jensen said.
“These are the kinds of songs that last forever. Although so many of them are about love, loss and heartache there are a few happy ones in there too.”
Jensen’s last show chronicled her life and the journey music has taken. However, she said this is about the songs, and people will relate them to their experiences and their lives.
“Even though it’s on a school night, people should come along on a beautiful date or with a potential lover and have a great meal and be entertained – I promise you’ll leave humming something,” she said. As well as rehearsing for her gig at Slide, Jensen is in the process of recording new songs and is hoping to release them on iTunes for summer.
