Queers against WTO
Politics met the Gay Games for a few hours last week when someone managed to change the fresh new billboard above Oxford St into a protest against the World Trade Organisation meeting planned for mid-November.
The graffiti’d message was quickly cleared off, but not before everyone who saw the signs had their minds taken off the upcoming Games, if only for a few moments.
It wasn’t us, said a spokesperson from Queer Bloc, a group of gay and lesbian organisations who are gathering this weekend to plan their protest to the upcoming WTO meeting.
I think that particularly because of the fact that it’s an international event furthering the rights of gay and lesbian people we’re supporting the Games, she said.
I’m sure that whoever did do it didn’t chose that particular poster -“ they probably just saw a big open space.
Queer Bloc have planned an information night and open meeting, Queers And The World Trade Organisation, for this Sunday 27 October from 4 to 6pm at the Pride Centre, 26 Hutchinson St, Surry Hills. The meeting will feature speakers and free food and drinks.
