I find it pretty amazing that the SSO online poll is showing that the majority of members are planning to ‘vote for the status quo’ as opposed to ‘vote for change’. Considering the status quo brought us a $500,000 loss, numerous poor decisions, a Spencer Tunick photo which cost $150,000 for something which didn’t benefit or have much to do with Mardi Gras, an advertised then cancelled ‘beach party’… and the list goes on. With an outcome like that I would say a change is desperately needed. I wouldn’t trust the current Board with the precious remaining funds we have left

Dear Candidates

Please see attached letter from Greg Small. Greg has asked that I circulate this letter to each of you.

Like Greg, I have also been disturbed by some of the behaviours being exhibited around this election. I wanted to raise with you one issue in particularly. It has come to my attention that there is a rumour that proxies are being paid for in one way or another by particular candidates.
The matter has not been formally brought to me and I am well aware of the caution one must take when they are dealing with speculation and rumour.
However, if information is brought to me supporting any such allegation (either before or after next week’s election), I will have no hesitation in referring the matter either to ASIC or the Federal Police.

It goes without saying that any impropriety in connection with the election has the potential to cause significant damage to NMG’s reputation and brand and I do not accept the argument that those sorts of behaviours are a means justified by the ends.

I just received a very concerning email from David Wilson seeking my support for him. I see from his statement here he has very little experience with Mardi Gras having only volunteered for Fair day last year.

In the email he make some pretty crazy and alarmist statements about NMG – the whole tone of the email is alarmist and fear mongering and you just have to read the MG Annual Report to see that most of what he writes about is absolute garbage.

I am really annoyed that he would try and get elected in this way and he definitely wont be getting my support. I think that he has overstepped the mark and believe he should apologise to the members of Mardi Gras for the way he is conducting his campaign. This is gutter politics at it’s worst.
