Kylie: I was misdiagnosed
Australian gay icon Kylie Minogue appeared on Ellen DeGeneres’s show in LA this week with Hillary Clinton.
Ellen and Hillary were discussing the problems of diagnosing breast cancer. Kylie made the bold statement that she was initially misdiagnosed in 2005 before her Showgirl tour started.
She said she didn’t wish to frighten anyone but that she did want to let people know she believes one should trust one’s instincts and not be afraid to seek a second opinion. It was quite an emotional moment.
I have a great respect for the medical profession and the numerous, in fact countless, people who helped me on my road back to health, Minogue said in a statement on her website kylie.com.
I am in the very best of hands now, but it is a fact that my initial diagnosis was that I was -Ëœalright, and had nothing to worry about’.
A few weeks later this was clearly not the case. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment is the key for any woman diagnosed with breast cancer.
Minogue’s revelation serves as a message to all women -“ lesbians included -“ to have regular breast checks and seek a second medical opinion if you are not satisfied with the first.
