Get more out of sex
Some people think Celebrating the Body Electric workshops are just big, dirty sex weekends. But they’re not, according to Bob Moore, coordinator of the Sydney branch of the Body Electric School. And there’s a lot more to it than just sex.
We all know how to have sex, that’s not what we’re there to teach people, Moore explained.
Sex is a fairly instinctive thing. We learn how to do it, and when we get the urge to go and have sex it’s a fairly easy thing to find, particularly in the gay community.
For a lot of people, however, the novelty of sex wears off and they stop finding it satisfying, Moore said.
There’s been a lot of research done into sex activity recently and one of the things that’s been found is that for the average man, the time between getting an erection and actually having an orgasm is about four minutes. That’s really not very long.
The Body Electric workshops aim to teach men how to use their erotic energy to make sex last longer, Moore explained. They also teach that sex doesn’t have to necessarily involve intercourse and that erotic energy is connected to the head, heart and spirit.
It’s all about establishing connection between men and also establishing intimacy. A lot of people might be able to have sex, but they miss out on the intimacy bit, Moore said.
The more men you speak to the more you find say that’s what they’re missing out on and looking for. That’s basically what Body Electric is about – empowering men to explore their erotic selves and harness all that energy.
The next Sydney workshop will be held this weekend in the Blue Mountains from Friday evening to Sunday night and costs $550 per person. Most workshops have 10 to 30 people in attendance and yes, participants must be naked.
It’s a clothes-off workshop, as we say, chuckles Moore. It is suitable for people who are comfortable with being touched and touching other men. But we do it in a nice, supportive way.
We get lots of people coming from all different ages, body shapes and sizes, some with no issues about being naked, and some with lots of issues. So the first thing we do is make everyone comfortable, and once we get there it’s hard getting them to put their clothes back on again!
Moore wouldn’t reveal exactly what goes on in the course, but did say it involved a lot breathing exercises and massage techniques to teach people how to raise their erotic energy.
It does involve massage of intimate parts of the body, Moore added, but it’s the way it’s done that’s the important thing.
So, um, what happens if you get an erection? On the weekend erections are not important, they’re not needed, it’s not necessary, Moore explained. But if you have them, that’s fine.
Well that’s a relief! After saying this, Moore reiterates that the weekend is not about sex.
It’s about raising that erotic energy, making connections with other people and learning how to harness that intimacy.
