Czech rights bill survives veto
Czech parliament has voted narrowly in favour of a landmark gay rights bill, overcoming a veto by the country’s president last month.101 Czech Republic lower house MPs voted for the proposed legislation -“ the minimum required to override president Vaclav Klaus’s veto last month, Advocate.com reported.Once enacted into law, the bill will give Czech gay and lesbian couples more rights in areas such as inheritance law and health.The bill first passed Czech parliament’s lower house in December. The upper house voted for it in January.Czech gay activist Jiri Hromada said this week’s vote in favour of the bill showed common sense [had] won.It will harm no-one and will make many happy.
