Courtney rocks
She may have just missed out on a spot in the final round of Australian Idol, but don’t think for a minute you’ve seen the last of Courtney Act.
After a hell-raising performance of the AC/DC classic You Shook Me All Night Long on Sunday night’s wildcard show, Courtney was a popular choice with both the judges and the voting public, but missed out in both categories -“ after narrowly missing out in the previous week’s round, as well.
I’m very, very happy, Courtney told Sydney Star Observer this week. The fact that I got into the top three, three times, was good because it showed the public liked me -“ unfortunately not quite enough -“ but it took the tokenism out of the whole thing, I think.
After her first blonde bombshell performance (for the song You Don’t Own Me), Courtney reinvented herself as a heavy metal chick for last Sunday’s telecast -“ complete with serious Steve Tyler-esque rock cape and a blonde wig that showed major signs of brunette regrowth.
Courtney credited her drag queen mates Vanity Faire (for the wig) and Ashley Swift (for the rock cape) and said that she decided to sing You Shook Me All Night Long because she had mimed it on stage at the Stonewall Hotel for some six months.
Although other openly gay reality TV stars over recent years have been subjected to some flak, Courtney said she had no problem on that score at all.
There was definitely a lot of support and camaraderie between all of us [on the show], she said. The behind the scenes people were also very encouraging. There was no homophobia or anything like that.
While Courtney will be appearing at the Midnight Shift this Friday (in the Divastated: The Next Genderation show) and Sunday (compering Blue magazine’s search for a cover-model competition), she said she has other plans for work in the future.
I’ve got a few good meetings lined up and there were a few handshakes and a few gentleman’s agreements made after the show -“ everything from hosting to recording, she said. I’ve got the exposure now. I can run with it.
