Everything about Latham is ordinary but he is articulate enough to fool other ordinaries in the phobia zones who don’t know any better. His leadership of the Labor Party was a train wreck and when he lost the election he contested against John Howard he didn’t even have the balls to come out on the night and concede defeat – instead he went into hiding. Now years later in absence of being picked up for a cushy gig in the private sector he has drifted across various parties finally attaching himself to One Nation. How long that little marriage will last is anyone’s guess. His dream of having his snout in the trough of the public purse again and being relevant has only partially come true. Other entrants into the Upper House may yet rob him of the chance to grandstand and have much effect against slamming gay and trans people…at least that is the hope.
