A Priscilla Sequel is Officially In Development And The Cast Is Back!
This year marks thirty years since the release of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert and today fans have been delighted with news that a sequel to the film is officially in the works.
The films original director Stephan Elliott has confirmed that a sequel is officially in the works.
And the original three stars of the film are all set to return.
Priscilla is set for a comeback
It’s been thirty years since Mitzi Del Bra (Hugo Weaving), Felicia Jollygoodfellow (Guy Pearce) and Bernadette Bassenger (Terence Stamp) journeyed across the Australian outback, now it looks like the iconic trio are set for another adventure.
During an exclusive this week the original director, Sydney-born Stephan Elliott, has confirmed the comeback.
鈥淚鈥檓 not repeating myself, we鈥檒l start the new film in Australia, but by God, we鈥檙e going on one helluva journey” he told Deadline.
He had even more exciting news to reveal about the cast.
鈥淭he original cast is on board, I鈥檝e got a script that everybody likes, we鈥檙e still working out deals. 鈥 It鈥檚 happening,鈥 he revealed.
The decision marks years of deliberating for the director who was unsure about ever making a sequel to the hit film.
鈥滻 just was not sure, I just didn鈥檛 want to repeat myself,鈥 he told the publication.
鈥淚 thought, what am I going to do? Stick them on a cruise ship, stick them on a train? You name it, over the years I鈥檝e been pitched聽Priscilla 2 in spades” he explained.
He went on to reveal more details about the characters that have been developed in the upcoming script.
In particular he spoke about the details of Tick’s son, who was just seven years old in the original film.
鈥淲ell, he鈥檚 grown up now,鈥 says Elliott.
鈥淭herefore I鈥檝e written in a bunch of new characters to support a new generation.鈥
But it wouldn’t be Priscilla without the iconic soundtrack which he reveals will feature a mix of the old and the new.
The soundtrack will include 鈥渙ld disco classics, but we鈥檒l be moving into contemporary as well.”
As for when we can expect the film, he has plans to get moving and “get it happening, get it shooting this year. Actually, as soon as possible.鈥
The iconic bus is set to return
However it wouldn’t be Priscilla without the iconic bus that saw the original characters make their journey and it’s a detail Stephan has not forgotten.
鈥淚 don鈥檛 know how it survived but we have a plan,鈥 he says.
鈥淒on鈥檛 worry, the bus will feature.鈥
After being missing for decades the original bus which featured in the film has now been located.
The bus was recently located in the fields of Ewingar, a small town in the Northern Rivers Region of New South Wales.
Thanks to the efforts of the History Trust of South Australia .
The “Save The Queen” campaign has so far raised over $168,000 to help restore the Australian icon.
Elliott plans to make an official announcement in due course, but for now, he is ready to revive the Australian classic and reintroduce Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert to the world.
鈥淚t鈥檚 the 30th anniversary, the bus has been found,聽Priscilla the Party!聽is about to roll out globally and it鈥檚 time for聽笔谤颈蝉肠颈濒濒补鈥檚听final adventure to get made.”
How the hell can it take $2.2million to restore a bus or even the $168,000.
Who’s ripping off who ?.
Carnt wait to see the next instalment of Or of priscilla
Sounds FABULOUS!!! Doesn’t it?! “I Wonder” if ABBA will be included in this sequel & if there’ll be same effort required to secure the rights? I would be happier IF different songs were included like “Voulez Vous” maybe “Summer Night City” or “Does Your Mother Know” (if only to shame those who want to insist on misreading the narrative of this song, as ANY WAY predatory IT JUST DOES NOT, NOT For 1 Millimetre), rather than “Dancing Queen” which would be more obvious. OF course it was Muriel that had that eternal tune as her theme tune. I now wonder further IF this is as well done & received as we should all want it to be. That it encourages a “Muriel’s Wedding” sequel in same vein, but how is Muriel going now after same 30 years since we last saw her & Rhonda (and the 3 “Cocksuckers”? We can imagine there must have had many voices suggesting this could or should be plausible. But like with Stephen, PJ would likely want it to me more than a perfunctory ‘Part 2’. But year bring this on. I will say this though, what happened to the glorious Lavendar that Felicia spent the best part of a day in baking desert sun beautifying up? At least someone had sense to keep it somewhere & still looks useable. BRING THIS ON!
I’m in if they need a camp extra
