Call for contributions: Indigenous and Queer in Australia

INDIGENOUS听people are invited to contribute an essay on their life experiences as Indigenous LGBTI people and/or the contributions that LGBTI Indigenous people make to Australian social, cultural and economic life.

This edited collection of essays aims to document the diversity of experiences and contributions of Australian Indigenous people from all walks of life and across gender and sexuality.

In 1994, a group of seven women and men published the essay听Peopling the Empty Mirror: The Prospects for Lesbian and Gay Aboriginal History. Two decades on, a book focused solely on Australian Indigenous Queer people is yet to be published.

It is time to “people the empty mirror”.

Essays can be up to 5000 words in length. The book will include about 17听essays.

The oral tradition is respected and assistance may be possible for the recording, transcribing and editing of contributions for this book.

Wakefield Press (South Australia) will publish the book.

Copyright of each essay will reside with the author(s), who will each receive a copy of the book.

All author royalties from the book sales will be donated to a program designed to promote health and well-being of Indigenous youth, for example, Anthym (details of the recipient organisation will be finalised shortly):听
