The Bairnsdale Advertiser is out of step with community, and East Gippsland Shire. The sad part about the Barnsdale Advertiser is some of vitriolic hate has been followed up by hate crimes. The local member, Tim Bull, has been an editor for the paper in the past, and so it is as though the paper owns the National Party, as Darren Chester and Tim Bull seem to scared to support equality, as they fear the Bairnsdale Advertiser. Bairnsdale is a one paper town, so life can be tough growing up as a member of the GLBTI community, and people do not need the Bairnsdale Advertiser making life difficult. I love the area, near Lakes Entrance, also a one paper town where the Bairnsdale Advertiser also produces the Lakes Trading Post. The Gloria awards are important as they shine a light, where sometimes homophobia and transphobia get no attention. It exposes the sad views of a minority.
