Luck of the Irish for gay choir
The Brisbane Lesbian and Gay Pride Choir have set their sights one of the major LGBTI choral festivals in the world and need community support to get them there.聽Dublin is hosting Various Voices in 2014; a global LGBTI choral festival aimed at celebrating identity through song and to showcase achievements and diversity within the community on an international stage.
Other aims of the festival include fostering social and artistic interaction between choirs and singers and improve visibility of LGBTI choirs around the world in their cities and communities.
Tour organiser David Hardy said he is proud of their achievements and believes that a Brisbane choir could bring something special to the festival.
鈥淭he Brisbane Lesbian and Gay Pride Choir can bring a uniquely Australian, even Queensland spirit to the Various Voices festival. [Our program] will be drawn from Australian music, including original music commissioned by our choir,鈥 Hardy told the Star Observer.
The Choir is holding a fundraising film screening on December 5 at Palace Cinema in Fortitude Valley. Choir President Tracey Nichols hopes the Brisbane community will support them in their efforts.
鈥淲e are looking for support from the GLBTI community towards our ambitious target of touring Ireland in 2014鈥e would love to see a big crowd to support our Choir touring Ireland and the UK in June 2014.鈥
