LGBT project funding available

Applications for financial grants to support LGBT projects in Queensland have become available through the Healthy Communities Fund.

The fund is inviting applications from groups, services, businesses and individuals for projects which help promote the health and wellbeing of LGBT Queenslanders, build and strengthen LGBT communities or support fundraising activities for LGBT groups.

A total of up to $7500 is available in each application round, with a maximum of $1000 being awarded to any one application.

During the past four years, more than 60 LGBT projects have been funded across the state, receiving more than $150,000.

Projects included workshops, social groups, fundraising activities, festivals, equipment, retreats, and health campaigns and resources.

鈥淭here are lots of great ideas out there in the LGBT community, and with just a little bit of money they can be turned into a reality,鈥 Healthy Communities general manager Paul Martin said.

鈥淲e鈥檝e been able to fund some great projects which will make a real difference to the lives of LGBT people. We hope to continue this with the next round in January.鈥

Healthy Communities has used accumulated income on a previously-owned rental property to kickstart the Fund, but ongoing donations and sponsorship are desperately needed keep it going.

Application guidelines and the application form are available from the Healthy Communities website or by calling 1800 177 434. The closing date for the 10th round is June 30.

Individuals or businesses can make a tax-deductible donation to the fund.
