JOY parties at Mardi Gras
Melbourne GLBTI radio station JOY 94.9FM is continuing its run of outside broadcasts this year with a live show from the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade next month.
It will be the fifth time the station has broadcast from Australia鈥檚 largest gay and lesbian event.
Bringing all the sound and excitement from Oxford St on March 5, the live transmission will start at 7pm (AEDST) and run until 11pm.
JOY president David McCarthy said the broadcast offers the rest of Australia a chance to experience Mardis Gras without leaving their lounge rooms.
鈥淪ince 1978 Mardi Gras has been a symbol for diversity and inclusion in our community,鈥 he said.
鈥淛OY 94.9 is excited by this opportunity to take the vibrancy of Mardi Gras to an even wider audience.
鈥淏ring it on.鈥
JOY general manager Danae Gibson said the station is committed to ensuring a diverse voice is heard across the airwaves.
鈥淭he [outside broadcast] is a wonderful example of the gay and lesbian community 鈥 regardless of geographic location 鈥 working together to break down isolation and celebrate our culture,鈥 she said.
JOY鈥檚 Mardi Gras broadcast will also be heard on other community stations across Australia via the Community Radio Network.
