Health Alliance in better shape

LGBTI Health Alliance chair Paul Martin reported that the Alliance was in better financial health in 2011 than in 2010 at its second AGM on October 20.

鈥淗aving secured two years of project funding and one year鈥檚 secretariat funding, the Alliance is in a much stronger position at the end of this year than we were last year,鈥 Martin said.

鈥淲e have now secured one year鈥檚 funding allowing us to make the general manager position full-time, employ a policy officer and a membership support and information officer. This will bring much needed capacity to the organisation and allow us to deliver on the promise of what a national alliance can do.鈥

Martin was re-elected to the board alongside Gina Wilson from Organisation Intersex International Australia, Dr Mark Fuller from South Australia and Heidi Yates from the ACT. Fuller is a medical practitioner in the field
of primary health care who has worked with young LGBTI people. He chaired the South Australian Ministerial Advisory Council of Gay and Lesbian Health.

Former Australian of the Year nominee and human rights solicitor Heidi Yates has been an advocate of LGBT causes in legal and political circles.
