Gay rights call in song
In an Australian first, two of the the nation’s leading gay balladeers will perform in a session dedicated to LGBT rights protest songs at the Cygnet Folk Festival south of Hobart this Saturday at 10am.
Judy Small and Peter Hicks will perform some of their work and then discuss the history of their songs with a panel and the audience.
Peter, who will perform One Day in October, inspired by the mass arrests of LGBT rights defenders in Hobart in 1988, said the dedicated session is an Australian first, and possibly a world first.
“We invite everyone to come to our session including those who are interested in LGBT history and the history of protest songs”, he said.
The Cygnet Folk Festival is one of the most popular folk music festivals in Australia.
